A Journey Through the Soul of Two Countries
I had explored parts of India before, but this time was different. This was a deep dive into the cultural essence of two fascinating countries—India and Nepal—on what would become an unforgettable Golden Triangle + Nepal Tour. Over 10 days, I experienced the extremes: India’s vibrant chaos and Nepal’s mountain serenity. Here’s my story.
From the Streets of Delhi to the Majesty of Jaipur
Our journey began in Delhi, where centuries of history live side-by-side with metro stations and modern cafés. After a warm welcome—complete with a garland of marigolds—I checked in and joined the group for dinner with a local Indian family. The butter chicken and champagne were delicious, but it was the genuine hospitality that truly sparkled.
The next day, we explored Delhi’s soul—Humayun’s Tomb, Qutub Minar, and the graceful curves of Lodhi Garden. We paused at India Gate, where families picnicked and vendors sold sweet chai. The old and the new collided beautifully here.
Heading west to Jaipur, we arrived in the capital of Rajasthan. Known as the Pink City, Jaipur looked like a film set from a Raj-era epic. At Amber Fort, I climbed up on a decked-out elephant, marveling at the view. Inside the fort, mosaic mirrors and ancient courtyards whispered tales of royals and rebels. Later that afternoon, we roamed the City Palace and Hawa Mahal, then shopped in the colorful bazaars where I picked up silk scarves and silver trinkets.
Agra and the Taj: India’s Love Letter in Marble
We left for Agra, stopping by the haunting ruins of Fatehpur Sikri en route. In Agra, I finally laid eyes on the Taj Mahal, glowing in the soft morning light. No monument in the world had moved me quite like this one. We also visited Agra Fort and the lesser-known but exquisite Itimad-ud-Daulah.
Himalayan Dreams: Welcome to Nepal
The next morning, I boarded a flight to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. A new rhythm unfolded. Gone was the urban energy of India, replaced by a tranquil pulse. I sipped a gin and tonic from a rooftop terrace, watching the sunset behind the Himalayas.
In Kathmandu, we strolled through ancient squares in Patan, Bhaktapur, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. The scent of incense drifted through the air as Buddhist monks circled stupas, prayer flags fluttering in the breeze. I found a deep peace in the silence of Boudhanath Stupa, and felt a spiritual connection at Pashupatinath Temple, where rituals along the river told stories of life and death.
On our final day, we climbed to Swayambhunath, the hilltop monkey temple, and watched the city stretch out below us like a painting. That night, we said goodbye over a final meal, feeling bonded by shared wonder.
